I've "discovered" Tumblr
I've been playing about with other social media options other than Facebook. I do rely on Facebook quite a bit for my organising my social life and keeping in touch with people, and I do spend a lot of my time glued to my phone obsessively checking the FB app. I've found this is making me miserable as Facebook just gives you an unfiltered pouring of everything in the world to make you despair. I'm not saying I want to be apathetic and ignore the fact the world is crumbling around me, with Brexit and Trumps and Tories etc etc etc... but I don't want to be reminded of it every time I look at my phone.
I've spent more time on Twitter than I used to, and although it allows me to follow some of my favourite people in the world of Magic: The Gathering, the cast and crew of Critical Role and many other people of varying levels of celebrity who's lives and activities I'd be interested in, it is full of horrible people! I find Twitter hard work and at times can depress me more than Facebook.
My last blog here was about how I was starting work on a Comic/Graphic novel, mainly for my own enjoyment but was still going to make available to read for those who are interested. I've been searching for the best place to share the work I was doing and Tumblr seemed to be the best option. I decided to set myself up and start micro blog specifically for my Comic work and any other art I decide to create since I got myself a graphics tablet and am clearly a Digital Artist now, it's legit! So this is where I'll share the comic itself and any other snippets I'd like to share from the creative process (oh I love the pretention of saying things like creative process! Fah Fah!)
A side effect of this is finding that Tumblr is the Social Media experience I've been craving. Hideous unwanted current affairs and bigotry isnt shoved down my throat unless I actively go looking for it. It's perfect for creative types as there is no content requirements that could be interpreted as "censorship" like you would find on Facebook. Tumblr happily runs a more self policing approach, allowing users to choose if they want to see explicit content or not. So artists, photographers, models etc can share there NSFW work without fear of being penalised. Okay some of it is pure pornography, but the line between porn and art can be a fine one.
So if any of you reading this and want to follow my artistic exploits as I attempt to be comic artist/writer my Tumblr can be found HERE. I currently have 0 followers so here's your opportunity to be the first!
